can we merge 2 tables with total participation and 1:1 cardinality ratio?

this concept was required in question that asks for a minimum no of tables required by giving the er diagrams.

Yes we can merge two tables with cadinality 1:1 but only if they have total participation on atleast one side.

If both sides paticipate partially then we would require 2 tables because in this case we cannot merge them.
