A bag contains 1 rupee, 50 paise and 25 paise coins. The value of 1 rupee, 50 paise
and 25 paise coins are in the ratio of 5 : 2 : 3 respectively. If total number of coins is
420, then what will be the total value of all coins?

1. Rs. 160
2. Rs. 180
3. Rs. 220
4. Rs. 200

@dishendra

(4) Rs. 200...

Let, the number of coins of 1, 0.5 and 0.25 are 5x, 3x and 1x respectively.

Hence, 5x + 3x + x = 180 ---- (1) ⇒ 9x = 180 ⇒ x = 20

Hence, number of 1 rupee coins = 100,

number of 50 paisa coin = 60 and number of 25 paisa coin = 20

∴ Total value (in Rs.)

= 1 × 100 + 0.5 × 60 + 0.25

= 135 ...

The ratio given in the question is the ratio of the value of coins, NOT the number of coins.

The correct answer is  4) 200
