A mask should have continuous 1 bits from the left end, and rest continuous zeroes

a) in binary is $11111111.11100001.0.0$ so not a valid mask.
b) in binary is $11111111.11000000.0.0$ so it's a valid mask.
c) in binary is $11111111.11111111.11111111.00000110$ so not a valid mask.
