A bag contains 1 rupee, 50 paise and 25 paise coins. The value of 1 rupee, 50 paise
and 25 paise coins are in the ratio of 5 : 2 : 3 respectively. If total number of coins is
420, then what will be the total value of all coins?

Let, the number of coins of 1, 0.5 and 0.25 are 5x, 3x and 1x respectively.

Hence, 5x + 3x + x = 180 ---- (1) ⇒ 9x = 180 ⇒ x = 20

Hence, number of 1 rupee coins = 100,

number of 50 paisa coin = 60 and number of 25 paisa coin = 20

 

∴ Total value (in Rs.)

= 1 × 100 + 0.5 × 60 + 0.25

= 135 ...

The ratio given in the question is the ratio of the value of coins, NOT the number of coins.

The correct answer is  4) 200
